Mercy of Discipline

Series: Shepherds for God's Flock

Ever wonder why Jesus tells us to confront instead of cancel? In this sermon, Pastor Alex unpacks the real purpose of church discipline—rescuing wanderers, not shaming sinners. In Christ's instructions to the church, we see how God cares about holiness and displays love and mercy to wandering Christians by calling the church to seek them out and call them home. This is our responsibility to one another as church members to seek to restore one another and exercise the authority given to the congregation to protect the "who" of the Gospel.

Matthew 18:15-20

Church discipline is Jesus' merciful plan to restore wandering Christians

1. Privately pursue restoration first

2. Widen the circle to rescue and protect

3. Act authoritatively reflecting Christ's authority
